25 Easy Homemade Salsa Recipes

Oh my gosh. Can we just talk about homemade salsa? If you’re still buying the jarred stuff, you are seriously missing out on so much.

Homemade is just… better. It’s a total flavor explosion, and you know it’s 100% fresh.

Things like pico de gallo or a good fire-roasted salsa? Shockingly easy to make. And the best part? You’ll find a million ways to eat it.

1. Black Bean Salsa

Are you making Tex-Mex tonight? This is 100% the salsa you need for the table. It’s a lot like cowboy caviar and just so, so simple to pull together.

I am all about adding this to my Tex-Mex nights. It’s perfect on big sheet pans of Texas nachos or served right alongside some steak fajitas. Just so good!

2. Fresh Mango Salsa

Okay, this is basically a Mexican fiesta in a bowl. Just look at it! It’s so gorgeous and eye-catching, and I promise the flavor is even more amazing.

What’s different? This one has zero tomatoes. It gets its crunchy, sweet vibes from red peppers instead. It’s also very, very limey, which I am SO here for! But you can totally dial that back to match your own taste.

3. Bloody Mary Salsa

Planning a Sunday brunch? You totally need to make this. Your friends will be so delighted!

Okay, full disclosure, there is no vodka in this. But all the ingredients come together and it tastes just like the real drink!

You have your tomatoes, your Worcestershire, hot sauce, black pepper, and lime. It even has a little bit of celery salt to give you that full experience. Just perfect.

4. Roasted Tomatillo Salsa (Salsa Verde)

I am one of those people who always goes for the salsa verde at the taco shop salsa bar. I’m obsessed. My homemade Mexican food just doesn’t feel complete without it.

And that is why I am SO excited about this recipe! Now I can put salsa verde on everything without even leaving my kitchen. Roasting the tomatillos, peppers, and onions is the secret. It gives the whole thing so much more depth and a nice sweetness.

A quick tip: you’ll want to de-seed those jalapenos before you blend. Unless, of course, you want all that fire. You do you!

5. Garden Fresh Zucchini Salsa

I am always here for healthy, garden-fresh recipes, and that 100% includes this summer dip. It has a whole harvest of veggies and four jalapenos, so it definitely brings the heat.

It does take a bit more time than some of the other salsas. But it has SO many uses, making it totally worth the effort.

You can add it to pasta, enchiladas, quesadillas… pretty much anything. YUM.

6. Classic Pico de Gallo

You can just never go wrong with a classic pico de gallo. This is a total staple in my house for all things Mexican food.

I use it on my fish tacos, in burritos, with fajitas, and honestly, so much more.

The big secret to perfect pico is using ripe tomatoes and salting them before you combine everything. This really helps pull out their juices.

Oh, and try to slice all your ingredients into the same size pieces. It just makes it better.

7. Citrus Salsa

Citrus salsa is one of those dips that I could just eat with a spoon. It’s a juicy mix of grapefruit and blood oranges with a squeeze of lime.

It is amazing on tacos and salmon. You can even spoon it over taco salads.

But don’t let that stop you. Let your imagination go wild!

8. Easy Blender Fire Roasted Salsa

The blender is your best friend for getting that semi-chunky, restaurant-style salsa texture.

You’ll roast the jalapenos and alliums, then toss them right in the blender with canned tomatoes, lime, and spices.

Just be careful not to blend it for too long, unless you’re actually going for a super-smooth salsa instead of a chunky one.

9. Guajillo Chile Salsa

Guajillo is a super popular dried chili used a lot in Mexican salsas. They’re a little sweet and milder than other peppers, and this salsa is just like that.

If you need a salsa to go with savory pork, this is such a great one to make. It’s smoky and tomato-forward without a ton of spice.

10. Chile de Arbol Salsa

Hello, spicy food lovers! You are going to want to start dipping into this one immediately.

This five-ingredient salsa is all about those potent peppers and garlic, with just a couple of tomatoes for substance.

If it’s a little too hot, you can just toss in more plum tomatoes to cool it down.

11. Roasted Mango-Habanero Salsa

The best habanero recipes know how to show off this mighty pepper while balancing all that fiery heat. And this salsa just does it perfectly!

Mango and habanero are a total dream team.

That combination of sweet and spicy comes together for a perfect contrast of flavors with a little tropical vibe.

There are SO many things to put this on, I can’t even list them all. I’d say start with grilled fish or chicken, and then just go crazy from there.

12. Charred Tomato Salsa

If you’re like me and prefer roasted salsas over fresh ones, this is a favorite that I just can’t say enough good things about.

The pan-charred tomatoes get so sweet, smoky, and meaty. YUM.

While you’re at it, char all the other ingredients, too. You want them to start to blacken, but not get totally burnt to a crisp.

Want it more garlicky? Just toss in an extra clove or two.

13. Grilled Pineapple Salsa

You know, pineapple salsa is just phenomenal when you roast it. It gives this juicy salsa a whole other layer of depth.

It gets sweet and caramelized, and it’s soaked in rum before roasting for even more flavor. YES.

14. 5-Minute Pomegranate Salsa

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean salsa season has to be!

This cold-weather salsa is such a fresh and bright condiment. It will totally liven up any meal.

It has most of the usual fresh salsa ingredients, but uses pomegranate seeds instead of tomatoes.

Besides getting the seeds out of the pomegranate, it takes no time at all. You can even prep it a day in advance. How easy is that?

15. Spicy Pineapple Avocado Salsa

Vacations might be few and far between, but you can have this little tropical paradise any time you want.

Juicy pineapples and fresh avocado are a summery treat that pairs perfectly with all your fresh dishes.

If you can get a ripe pineapple, I definitely recommend going that route.

You could even use the hollowed-out rind to serve a beachy pineapple cocktail. Just saying.

Otherwise, I think it’s totally fine to get away with canned pineapple, just as long as you drain it really well.

16. Salsa Guille

Salsa Guille is a four-generation recipe, and it’s a true gem. It is so different from everything else on this list, which means you just have to try it.

At its base, it’s a creamy peanut butter salsa. And it has more garlic than you can even imagine. SO GOOD.

It’s excellent with chicken skewers, but let’s be real, you can’t go wrong with chips.

17. Easy Roasted Corn Salsa

If you like your salsa on the tomatoey side, this one will not let you down.

Canned tomatoes make up the base, so it’s super rich. It also has a good handful of frozen corn for a little sweet surprise.

It’s kind of like a jarred salsa, only fresh. And it’s as easy as chopping and blending. Sign me up.

18. Roasted Tomato Salsa with Cashews

If you’re wanting to try something a little different, this is a great recipe to start with.

This salsa brings together garden-fresh veggies with cashews for a buttery kind of effect. It’s smoky, a little garlicky, and not too spicy.

It will taste amazing with pretty much anything you toss on the grill, from tofu to pork.

19. Strawberry Salsa

I am known for eating an entire carton of fresh strawberries, and I feel the same way about this salsa.

It’s sweet, spicy, fruity, fresh, and citrusy. So, basically, it is everything all in one bowl.

For serving, you can get super creative. Savory meals, desserts… this fresh salsa is going to wow everyone.

20. Guacamole

What does guacamole have to do with salsa? Oh, just everything!

Guacamole is really just pico de gallo with mashed avocados. My trick is to mash the avocados first, then add all the other stuff.

Once you start making your own guac at home, you will never be able to go back.

21. Watermelon Salsa

Juicy watermelon is such a fun, summery take on fresh salsa.

It gets dressed up with cilantro, red onion, and jalapenos. And if you want to give it a little pop of freshness, toss some mint in there.

This is a great substitute for a fruit salad and is honestly just so good with a side of chips.

22. Extra-Hot Yucatán-Style Roasted-Habanero Salsa (Chile Tamulado)

This is how they make that super fiery salsa in the Yucatan. It’s smoky, packed with citrus, and loaded to the brim with habaneros.

This one is NOT for amateurs. This is for the seasoned salsa pros, the people who get happier the more Scoville units are involved.

23. Roasted Red Pepper Salsa

Here’s another exceptional roasted salsa that’s a lot less fiery. Hello, red pepper salsa.

Roasting the bell peppers makes them sweeter and more savory. You’ll want to get the skins off after roasting.

So, here’s what I do: I put them in a brown bag to let them steam. This makes the skins so much easier to peel.

24. Lacto Fermented Salsa

Have you tried fermented salsa? This stuff is just incredible.

Fermented food has probiotics, which are so healthy for your gut. It also preserves the food, so you can make this salsa now and eat it way later.

The tomatoes will have to ferment in the brine for a few days. So, I highly recommend making one of the quicker salsas on this list while you wait.

25. Ancho-Arbol Chile Pepper Salsa

If you’re the person who always reaches for the red salsa at the taco shop, this one is for you.

This four-ingredient salsa is spicy, smoky, and goes so well with meat. Just be careful not to burn the peppers. If you do, you’ll end up with a really unpleasant, bitter salsa.
