I’ll just put it out there: I am 120% OBSESSED with Halloween. And you know what? Halloween appetizers are a massive part of that. (Okay, fine, the desserts, snacks, and cocktails are also mission-critical!) I am just so into this.
For this list, we are going all in. Think: your favorite, classic apps, but remixed to be extra spooky. We’re talking everything from witchy bites to gooey queso! Let’s do this.
1. Witches’ Broomsticks
You need to know the secret to these. It’s just pretzel sticks, cheese sticks, and fresh chives. Ummm hi, that’s all. You can get dozens of these cute broomsticks ready in, like, no time.
That salty pretzel with the cheese? Just a phenomenal combination. (And YES, these are a total home run for any Harry Potter party.)
2. Jack-O-Lantern Cheese Quesadillas
These little Jack-o-lanterns are ridiculously easy. We’re talking 15 minutes and just two ingredients. Cheese and tortillas! YES. If you can handle cutting a pumpkin shape and a face, you’ve got this. No trouble.
You could even get the kids in on it and have them draw faces with edible markers. (But, yeah, you should probably handle the cutting.)
3. Halloween Eyeball Bruschetta
Okay, so maybe not as creepy as the deviled egg eyes, but if you’re into bruschetta, you are going to love these. This requires no stove time whatsoever. We’re just assembling!
They end up looking like bloodshot eyes and are just packed with cheese, pepper, and garlic flavor. The perfect Eye-talian treat.
4. Monster Munch
This is, like, the easiest of all easy Halloween apps. Just toss Chex, pretzels, your favorite cereals, and Halloween candies together. Drench it all in melted white chocolate chips and hit it with Halloween sprinkles.
It comes together in just minutes and is SO GOOD. Plus, it’s kind of a blank canvas. Follow the recipe or just make it up as you go! A perfect sweet treat for Halloween.
5. Mummy Pizzas
Let’s be real, mini pizzas are always a hit at any party. Always. You can make them Halloween-ready just by decorating them to look like mummies. It’s one of those minimal effort, maximum results situations.
That is definitely my kind of recipe.
6. Jack Skellington Ricotta Olive Tarts
If you love The Nightmare Before Christmas and are also into olives and ricotta, this recipe has your name written all over it. I’m not going to lie, they take a bit of effort and time. But.
They look exactly like Jack and are salty, cheesy, garlicky, and just plain great. Seriously, these are incredible.
7. Mummy Brie
It’s hard to describe brie if you’ve never had it. It’s somehow fruity, tangy, nutty, and herby all at once. When it’s baked? So creamy and warm.
The puff pastry crust works as the mummy bandages and adds this rich, buttery goodness that is just delightful. A couple of olives and mini pepperonis for eyes, and you’ve got one adorable mummy!
8. Apple Monster Bites
These are just so much fun! Who knew that sliced apples, strawberries, and sunflower seeds could look so much like little monsters? Put some homemade googly eyes (or candy ones) on top, and they look almost too realistic.
I’ll be honest, though. Those sunflower seed teeth are just almost too creepy for me to eat.
9. Halloween Stuffed Dates
Stuffed dates have always been one of my favorite hors d’oeuvres. They just taste so good and feel so rich and decadent.
Obviously, serving them on a platter with plastic roaches kind of messes with that “rich and decadent” vibe. But if you can get past the ick factor, they are just as phenomenal as they’ve always been.
10. Halloweeno Jalapeno Popper Mummies
Halloweeno Jalapeno. How fun is that! These have buttery, flaky crusts and are so creamy and full of heat. We’re talking a big punch of spice and flavor in every single bite.
And really, who can resist those little candy eyeballs staring back from the mummy wrappings?!
11. Pumpkin Cheese Ball
I am a total cheese-ball-lover. Add that to my obsession with Halloween, and you get one of the best appetizer recipes I’ve ever stumbled on.
I make this thing any time it remotely makes sense. Halloween, Thanksgiving, any fall party. It’s just marvelous. So creamy and cheesy on the inside, with that outside layer of crunchy, flavorful Doritos. YUM.
12. Mini Spider Pizzas
Need a Halloween finger food recipe that will delight kids and adults alike? Give these scary (I mean, adorable) spider mini pizzas a try. All it takes is pizza crust, tomato sauce and paste, herbs, cheese, and black olives.
And don’t worry if some people aren’t into olives. You add them after baking, so they can just pick them off. No olive taste left behind!
13. Monster Halloween Popcorn
If you can handle popping popcorn and coating it with melted candy melts, you can get this monster Halloween popcorn done in 10 minutes or less.
Toss in some Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and candy corn to make it extra Halloweeny.
14. Meatball Mummies
Need some Halloween hors d’oeuvres that work for both kids and adults? You have to try these juicy meatball mummies wrapped in crescent rolls. They are totally adorable, so the kids are in.
But let’s be real, they’re basically single-serve meatloaf balls wrapped in buttery crescent rolls. What adult wouldn’t be into that?
15. Stuffed Pizza Skulls
We already talked about how pizza always has a place on the appetizer table. But. With a skull-shaped mold and about 30 minutes, you can seriously step up your Halloween pizza game.
This recipe calls for Italian sausage and pepperoni. But you can keep it as-is or just use this as a blank canvas for whatever add-ins you want.
16. Witches Finger Breadsticks
Here’s what you need for these: pizza dough, an egg wash (just eggs and water), and raw almonds. That’s it. The knotty, twisted dough looks creepily like a long finger.
And once you put that almond fingernail on? It’s almost too authentic to eat! You can also hit these with poppy or sesame seeds for some extra texture and flavor.
17. The Puking Pumpkin (Halloween Guacamole)
This is also just simple, but super yummy, guacamole. The presentation, though, is absolutely gruesome. (Which, let’s be real, is AWESOME for Halloween.)
The recipe name pretty much says it all, so I’m not going to spell it out. Just, you know, make sure your guests don’t have weak stomachs.
18. Graveyard Dip
Unbelievable trickery! Despite how it looks, this ghoulish dip is not sweet and chocolatey. That “dirt” is not crushed Oreos. It’s a black olive tapenade.
So if you’re thinking Halloween dirt cake, this is not that kind of dip. This is a creamy, briny dip packed with cheese and veggies. It’s actually, like, kinda good, though! The kids will even be into it.
19. Halloween Cheese and Crackers
Get creative with your basic cheese and crackers. Just use Halloween cookie cutters on the cheese!
You can top each cracker with a little pumpkin, ghost, bat, or kitty cat. (This is a super versatile idea you can honestly use for any holiday.)
20. Halloween Cheese Platter
I’m just going to say it: there’s no such thing as “too much cheese.” Just look at this smiling Jack-O-Lantern cheese board. You can customize it with full flexibility, but the original recipe includes heaps of cheese.
We’re talking cheese balls, cheese squares, cheddar, cheesy popcorn… you name it. And because of (not despite) all that cheesiness, it’s one of the most popular apps at the party. Always.
21. Eyeball Deviled Eggs
Need some Halloween finger food that people can just grab and eat while they mingle? Deviled eggs are always a hit. These specific ones are just ideal for Halloween.
That bloodshot look and the gunky yellowish goop in the middle? Downright disgusting. You are going to hate how much you love these things.
22. Halloween Chicken Parm Sliders
Just like pizza, chicken sliders are another easy app that will delight kids and adults alike. They aren’t usually very Halloweeny, though. You can fix that!
Just cut the cheese slices creatively and add some olive eyeballs. They are tasty, filling, and definitely more cute than scary. But still, everyone at your party is going to love them.
23. Antipasto Eyeballs
These antipasto eyeballs are ridiculously easy, taking just 10 minutes to pull together. (And no cooking! No stove time whatsoever!) You just cut and assemble the parts to look like… you guessed it… eyeballs!
And if you get the prosciutto wrapped just right, it totally looks like tongues.
24. Halloween Snack Tray
When you’re planning apps, you just can’t go wrong with a charcuterie board. And that’s exactly what this Halloween snack board is. To give it that Halloween vibe, just spend a little time on the presentation.
Don’t just put out cheese; add cheese pumpkins. Make your olives look like eyeballs. Toss in some edible eyeballs, spiders, and skeleton bones. There are so many ways to jazz up a regular charcuterie board.
25. Veggie Tray Skeleton
You won’t even believe how easy it is to make a simple veggie tray into this cute, realistic (but colorful) skeleton.
Okay, so with peppers for ribs, dip for a head, celery for arms, and mushrooms for hips, this guy doesn’t precisely look like the real thing. But still. Everyone will totally know what he is.
26. Ham ‘n’ Cheese Spiders
Can I be honest? These look more like crabs to me than spiders. But they have eight legs, so… whatever. Regardless, they are so delicious that people just will not care what they look like after that first bite.
The ham is tender and juicy, and the cheese is just pure melted goodness. Plus, the onions, mustard, butter, and poppy seeds? They add even more rich, bold flavor.
27. Jack-O-Lantern Hand Pies
Okay, these are mini-pumpkin pies that look just like Jack-o-Lanterns. I’m not sure I’ve ever loved a pie so much. They are absolutely enchanting. And they aren’t even hard to make!
You can get a half-dozen ready in about 40 minutes. I’m just not sure there’s a cuter Halloween dessert on the planet.
28. Spooky 7-Layer Halloween Dip
This is not your traditional 7-layer dip. I’m guessing the cream cheese spider web and olive spider gave that away. It has everything you love about taco dip.
We’re talking beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and all the rest. It just looks a little more witchy than the one you’re used to.
29. Sweet and Sour Bat Wings
Don’t you worry. These “bat wings” will not give you rabies. Unbelievable trickery! Despite the look, they aren’t bat wings at all. They are juicy, succulent chicken wings with crispy skin.
They have a phenomally delicious sweet-n-sour taste and just enough heat to make your tongue tingle. That frightening look? It comes 100% from black food coloring.
